The ghetto of Rome, also known as the Jewish quarter of Rome, is one of the oldest in the world and was built about 40 years after the Venice one, which historically was the first. It is located in the picturesque Sant’Angelo district, where the Tiberine Island also rises, formed by the wedges of the Tiber.
During this amazing walking tour (starting at Piazza Trilussa) through one the most iconic district of Rome, you can enjoy the visit of St. Mary’s in Trastevere church, a masterpiece of Byzantine art, and finally you’ll arrive in the heart of ghetto, visiting Portico D’Ottavia, built by Octavian Augustus a magnificent portico in honor of his sister Octavia defined by Plutarch as “a beautiful, austere and intelligent woman”.
The tour ends at Bocca della Verità, passing through the ruins of Teatro Marcello, also called the little Colosseum.
